The TrainCaught The Train by Cho-In Theatre at Esplanade Theatre Studio last Sat. My only Arts Fest outing as I'm still on an ED... It is a bittersweet tale of hope and desperation told through mime and music. The play manages to touch you and amuse you at the same time. There's clowning around, as this old magician couple compete with two orphan children for begging, and suffering portrayed through the old couple's painstaking efforts to win a few coins. There was also a scary segment - a demon-like character who extorts the children's money and physically abuses them. However, there was hope when the old couple managed to revive the abused children with their music. Quite an interesting blend of hope, desperation, slapstick and social commentary. Enjoyed it.Labels: Arts
